When Samantha Luigie, 37, a freelance graphic designer, walked onto the O2 stage to audition for X Factor in front of thousands of people, the last thing she expected was to leave with was three yes's, and an engagement ring on her finger.
Her rendition of Kings of Leon's ‘Sex on Fire' left the judges undecided on whether to put her through.
But when soon to be husband Paul Ricketts, 42, stepped on stage and asked the judges if he could “borrow a moment of their time,” no one could have predicted what happened next.
Paul became the first man ever to make wedding proposal on the show when he dropped down onto one knee, and asked Samantha if she would be his wife.
Samantha immediately said “yes”, and the Hastings couple received congratulatory hugs and kisses from judges Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Roland and Gary Barlow, who put Samantha through to bootcamp.
She said: “When Paul walked on stage, my dreams came true in that moment. Everyone else had disappeared and it was just Paul and I in the world. When I heard the words “Will you marry me?”, I couldn't say yes quickly enough.
“We are going to get married in Las Vegas – I can't wait.
“But the timing of it all depends on whether I get past bootcamp or not!”
